Independent Abilene

The purpose of this blog is two-fold: first, I wish to provide facts that many Abilenians may not know; facts that could change the way they feel about city government, taxation, and civil liberties. Second, this blog will serve as a sounding board for my own Libertarian opinions--and your opinions, too, of any stripe. Together, let's make Abilene a better place.

Luxury Library: Another Wasteful Decision

The City Council is leaning toward voting "yes" to open another branch of the Abilene Public Library in Northwest Abilene, near Willis and Ambler. The North side of Abilene already has three libraries, including two university libraries where public patrons have access to check out books; but even so, this third branch would be about five miles from the downtown branch. This would be an unbelievable waste of taxpayer monies, especially when you consider that, according to the council's own estimates, it will cost $400,000 per year to operate.
